JIM PARKER'S CROSS CANADA MUSICAL JOURNEY
The most fun way for your students to learn about
Canada! (Grades 3 to 6) This is a one hour and 15 minute musical
trip across our country featuring 12 original songs written and
performed by renowned children's singer/songwriter JIM PARKER
Using a giant 8' by 10'
full
colour map of Canada as well as various props and hats, Jim takes
your students from the rocky shores of Newfoundland all the way
to the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, and up to the frozen
tundra of our three territories. Along the way there are stops
in each province where Jim talks about its key elements (capital
city, geography, history) and then leads the audience in singing
a song about it. Every song has important information about the
specific province and each is delivered in a different style ranging
from Rock n' Roll to Hip Hop to Country. Your children will come
away knowing so much more about their Country then you could ever
imagine. Don't you owe it to them and yourself to bring THE CROSS
CANADA MUSICAL JOURNEY to your school?

THE SONGWRITING WORKSHOP
Using his guitar, Jim assists the students in creating
their own song and in the process teaches them about songwriting.
The children choose their own topic and with Jim's help, write
the lyrics. When the song is completed, Jim records the class
singing the song on cassette, which they can keep and copy as
they wish. At the end of the session all the classes gather in
the gym and perform the song for the other participating classes.
This is a perfect chance for the children to discuss important
topics such as CONFLICT IN THE SCHOOLYARD or the ENVIRONMENT.
Length 1 hour/session - 35 to 50 students/group
THE SCHOOLSONG WRITING WORKSHOP
This workshop is an extension of the SONGWRITING
WORKSHOP. Jim comes to the school and with a group of students
chosen by the staff composes a school song. He then returns to
his home recording studio where he records the instrumental background
for the song. Returning to the school on yet another day with
his recording equipment, Jim then records a different group of
children (20 students) singing the song. He then burns the CD
and packages it in a jewel case complete with the school logo,
title, the names of the participating students and lyrics on the
CD insert. The school can then purchase the CDs and sell them
to the students and staff either at cost or as a fund raiser.
